Hera was a sable longhaired female Syrian hamster. Her full name was Hera Molehamster, as when she first arrived she was so dark and velvety that she looked like a mole! She was born in 1982, and died in 1985.
She came from a petshop, and was chosen because she sat up on her hind legs and looked like a bear, and Iain has always had a soft spot for bears, and couldn't resist! Hera is another mythalogical name,and is the Greek Queen of the Gods.
Hera was very placid, and never bit. She was a real character and loved to acrobat on the roof of her cage. Typical of sables (which we have always found to be very long lived), she live to be 3 years old. She also liked to play on the grass in summer, and enjoyed nibbling on a dog biscuit.
